2017 Pride Month Playlist

by share

Every year, the U.S. celebrates LGBTQ+ Pride Month in June in order to commemorate the Stonewall riots of 1969. This pivotal moment in American history, forged by trans women of color, kickstarted the modern Gay Rights Movements and sparked a shift in public awareness. For the first time in American history, the structural disenfranchisement of queer people was brought to the attention of those outside of the community. The so-called “gay agenda” has always been obtaining visibility, to combat the centuries-old silencing, erasing and invalidation of queer identities. After hundreds of years in the shadows, we can say we are here, we are pride.

Though Atlanta’s pride month is in October, along with National Coming Out Day, which falls on Oct. 11, you can be proud and seen right now with the help of this playlist. Think of it as the soundtrack to your incredibly gay month.
