Thanks, Obama! A Playlist To Listen To as the First Black President Departs Office

by share

The day we have all been dreading is finally upon us — President Barack Obama has completed his final term in office, cementing his legacy as the first African-American to become the president of the United States of America. His departure from office this week is truly a saddening one for me. Barack Obama is the only president I can remember being elected, since I was too young to have a grasp of politics during the era of George W. Bush. But per the fictitious oath I took when I joined VOX (which was to make things suck less), I have to make Obama’s departure, well … suck less.

So, of course I curated a Spotify playlist of 30 songs, from “Alone Again” by Gilbert O’Sullivan to “Tha Crossroads” by Bone Thugs-N-Harmony, all to celebrate one of the coolest presidents ever (with the few exceptions being those drone strikes, the GITMO, and increased deportation of immigrants, which were not cool).

But whether you love or hate him, you have to admit that this playlist is the s**t. So grab a box of tissues, put on a pair of headphones and snuggle up next to your framed picture of the First Family, because on Friday they’ll be gone, and we’ll be under the command of Galactic Emperor Trump. How exciting.
