#LiveFromDownTown: VOX ATL Interviews Run the Jewels at Philips Arena [VIDEO]

The Atlanta Hawks gave VOX the opportunity to be court side and to interview world-touring rap group Run The Jewels, Killer Mike and El-P, who were performing on Oct. 27 at the Hawks’ home opener against the Denver Nuggets at Philips Arena. This night was amazing, as I was able to experience my first concert, interview the group and listen to Killer Mike rap out the lyrics to my favorite RTJ song, “Call Ticketron,” while rapping along verbatim.

During the interview, Killer Mike and El-P gave their take on topics such as their tour, their new merch partnerships with the Hawks and Marvel, and what they think the Hawks need to do to become successful again as they go through their struggles while rebuilding.

Mike was also excited to be in the building, as Atlanta is his hometown. After being on tour since January, the trip back felt like more of a homecoming to him, even though he says he never left and that the city is with him wherever he goes. El-P, a Brooklyn native, also agreed, calling Atlanta a second home for him and the trip that night being “a part of the experience.” Communicating with the group was spectacular, as they don’t see themselves as superstars but as two guys who share a love for making music.

A very special thanks to the Atlanta Hawks and Run the Jewels, as without them, I’d be unable to share this video. Enjoy.
