VOX ATL Teen Survey

We’re Listening!

VOX ATL’s annual teen survey helps adults who care about youth better understand teens’ wants and needs, and the data helps VOX ATL know what kind of content teens want. Teens at VOX ATL help design the survey and it’s promoted statewide.

2024 VOX Teen Survey

The 2024 VOX ATL Teen Survey is now live! We want to hear from you-  share your perspective by taking this mobile-friendly, anonymous survey at bit.ly/voxsurvey24

The latest data: Almost 500 GA youth spoke out in our 2023 Teen Survey!

This year, we evaluated 458 entries after cleaning the data — reviewing for incomplete responses and controlling for fraudulent responses. You can access our published report — VOX Teen Survey Report 2023 — or for a customized presentation / training to inform your work with youth today, please email us!

Survey data reveal event: On Oct. 26, 2023, as part of the national Lights on Afterschool awareness campaign and in partnership with GSAN, we revealed our findings in a teen-led “Family Feud” game.  You can enjoy a summary of the report in our game slides here: VOX ATL 2023 Teen Survey Data Summary – Family Feud.

Thanks to Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities for supporting this statewide reach to hear from youth about how they experience mental health today and to inform our field.

Teens, parents and community partners gathered for Lights on Afterschool, a national public awareness campaign organized by the Afterschool Alliance, to celebrate youth leadership and hear our teen survey findings.

2022 data

We heard what GA youth had to say about mental health, out-of-school time & more at Lights on Afterschool Event in October 2022, too, in partnership with the Afterschool Alliance! Above: Staff from the GA Statewide Afterschool Network (at left) and the Afterschool Alliance (at right) celebrated hearing from youth with us!

Survey background:

VOX ATL created a regional survey in 2015 to fill an information gap and help adults who work with youth know more about their needs from their own perspectives. Expanding statewide in 2019 with support from GA Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, this strengths-based survey shares young people’s insights around:

  • Afterschool: How do teens spend time outside of school? What influences their choices, and how do youth wish to spend their time?  This section also includes teens’ perspectives on what makes a quality after-school program and where they feel valued.
  • Mental health: What do teens say are the main causes of stress today and their choices for stress relief? This section also focuses on what teens say about stigma, and access to mental health resources so we can strive to remove barriers.
  • Communications: Where do teens get their information, and how do they like to communicate, so we can reach them more effectively?
