VOX Teen Poetry: My Escape

by share

My Escape
As I look through the reflective glass I think
I think of all the pain it’s caused me
I think of how my thoughts have overpowered the true image I could see

The obsession over how I looked kept running through my mind
So I did too
I ran to get slimmer
I ran to get in shape
I ran to get faster
I ran to get free

The warm California sun and smooth breeze hit my ears as apple music overtook my mind
This journey helps me feel more productive than lying in my bed
It has become my escape
Escape from the false reality my mind tries to make
Escape from wait keeps me lying awake
So I spend less time in a mirror worrying about my shape
