Program Details and Opportunities

Atlanta Teen Voices Journalism Fellowship – Normally a 12-week immersive program focused on core journalism and content creation skills, this year’s fellowship will last a full year. Journalism Fellows will have opportunities to develop their skills in reporting, writing, video production, podcast production, interviewing, and feature writing during the fall semester. In the spring, the fellows will work on investigative journalism, creative nonfiction, and opinion writing.

Teens who complete the Journalism Fellowship by attending fellowship meetings, publishing three projects each semester, meeting deadlines, and having an interest or curiosity in exploring their voice through creating content are eligible for a stipend of up to $500 per semester.

VOX Studios – At VOX Studios, you don’t just create content; you can gain real work experience and collaborate with real brands to tell their stories. Whether you’re into videos, podcasts, or writing, VOX Studios is for you to learn how to craft your story, film and edit, and manage projects for clients — and best of all, you get paid. VOX ATL hires teens with media and production skills and supports you as you grow your digital media talents. This is a program for teens who already have video/audio editing skills and want to build a portfolio of their work.

Youth Voice Leadership AcceleratorThis program helps teens ages 14-18 in the Metro Atlanta area develop their leadership capabilities by seeking to build a knowledge of their own voice and leadership style and how to uplift and amplify the voices of other teens to inform, inspire, and create stronger, more equitable communities. More info coming soon!

Teen Outreach Facilitator Program – Outreach Facilitators help to support VOX ATL out in the community. These are paid opportunities to facilitate workshops, plan and execute activations, table at community events, and promote VOX ATL’s programming. Facilitators will receive training on VOX Ambassadorship, VOXy facilitation techniques, planning and executing agendas, and more. This is great for teens who want to grow their public speaking and event planning skills.

Poetry @ VOX – Hone your craft, get your poetry published, and become a stronger performer! VOX ATL is the home to the Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate Program, which aims to identify young writers and leaders who are committed to civic & community engagement, poetry & performance, human relations, social justice, and education across Metro Atlanta.

In the fall, VOX ATL hosts hybrid poetry workshops to support teen poets’ growth. In the spring, Poetry @ VOX is dedicated to preparing teens to enter to the Atlanta Youth Poet Laureate Competition with in-person workshops and individual support.

Teens can submit their poetry for publication year-round.

VOX ATL Teen & Near-Peer Internship Program – Each semester and during the summer, VOX ATL offers several internship opportunities for teens and college-aged students. To qualify for teen internships, applicants must be registered VOXers who have completed a VOX ATL program (including our summer program, VOX Media Café). Opportunities are announced on our social media, in the virtual VOX ATL Community, and in our newsletters. All internships are paid, and more details can be found here.

VOX ATL Contributor – Interested in reporting, writing, and content creation without the commitment of joining a full program? Become a VOX ATL Contributor!

As a contributor, you can publish your articles, videos, and podcasts with VOX ATL, get editorial support for your stories, come into the office and use VOX equipment during office hours, and take advantage of live event coverage opportunities (more on that below).

Contributors who publish two pieces, attend two publishing meetings, and one VOX ATL event (besides Open House) qualify to become paid contributors who receive stipends for their published work.

Live Event Coverage Team – VOXers who are interested in event reporting should sign up for our Live Event Coverage Team. They will be the first to know about opportunities to attend movie screenings, theatre performances, concerts, sporting events and more. To receive tickets, teens must commit to publishing content about the event and submit a draft within 3 to 5 days after the event.

Commissioned Art Team – This is a perfect opportunity for teen visual artists looking to build their portfolios and get paid for their work by creating original artwork to be featured in other VOXers’ articles, as cover art for VOX ATL podcasts, and to run in VOX ATL print editions.
