VOX 5: Resources for Atlanta Teens Taking Control Of Their Sexual Health

|

Navigating life with or at risk for HIV can feel overwhelming, but the right resources can make all the difference. From community-based organizations to national support networks, numerous groups work every day to provide education, testing, access to treatment, and empowerment. Below are five resources dedicated to supporting individuals, families, and communities affected by HIV and sexually active teens:

Emory University

Emory’s Center for AIDS Research provides HIV testing, access to preventative options like PrEP and PEP, ongoing treatment, and long-term care led by experienced specialists. In addition to medical services, patients can access support such as counseling, referrals, and research-backed treatment options.

SisterLove

SisterLove is an HIV, sexual, and reproductive justice organization dedicated to supporting women, especially marginalized individuals, through education, prevention, advocacy, and community empowerment. Founded in Atlanta, the organization provides HIV/STI testing, health education, leadership development, and policy advocacy to ensure that women have the resources, rights, and support they need to protect their health and thrive.

Grady Health’s Women’s Health & Teen Health Care Center

Grady offers patient-centered services for women and teens, including HIV testing, counseling, and support for treatment. Their programs emphasize accessibility and confidentiality, helping patients manage their health effectively, while connecting them to additional social and medical resources.

AIDSVu

AIDSVu is a data-driven platform that shows HIV prevalence and trends across the United States. Providing interactive maps and detailed statistics, AIDSVu helps communities identify areas of need and access local prevention, testing, and treatment resources. Researchers, policymakers, and healthcare providers use AIDSVu to inform public health strategies and improve outcomes for those living with or at risk for HIV. Atlanta teens can use this data to be better informed and as a reference for school projects or news articles.

Positive Impact Health Center

Positive Impact Health Center has four locations in Metro Atlanta (Chamblee, Decatur, Duluth, and Marietta). One of their most impactful initiatives is their drive-through services. It makes testing and medication pick-up more convenient. It gives patients a fast and easy way to stay on top of their health.

Living with or at risk for HIV doesn’t have to be navigated alone. Connecting with local organizations and national resources provides education, support, and empowerment at every step. Reaching out for information, testing, or seeking treatment is a powerful step toward protecting your health and well-being, and these resources make that journey more accessible and informed.
