Attachments are common. It isn’t always healthy for people. You feel the need to have that connection everyday, and if you are away from it, you don’t feel happiness. You feel emptiness that never leaves. -Tala Hadid

Attachments in people can be either a good thing or a bad thing. In a good case, you have attachment say to your partner which is a good thing. However in some cases attachment can be a “bad” thing, like when a child has attachment to their parent and can never leave their side. -Elizabeth Peddi

Codependency is very toxic and very dangerous. It creates unstable and unsustainable relationships. Instead of two people helping each other grow, these toxic attachments make it so people can’t flourish and holds them back. It creates a mindset for many people that they can’t do anything on their own. That they will always need something or someone to help them reach the next step of life. Attachments such as these are dangerous but unfortunately, not uncommon. –Mairen Brown

Humans rely on their relationships with others to stay happy and fulfilled. Unfortunately, some people get too attached to a loved one and form a codependency with them. It is important to be able to identify if you have fallen into one of these relationships, because they can severely damage mental health and hold you back from achieving your goals. You can become entirely focused on one person and attach your self-worth to them. You rely on them as your only form of happiness and may even begin to shut out all of your other loved ones. This leads to a painful life that will only get better when you leave the relationship. Because of this, be sure that your relationships stay healthy and that you never rely on someone else to control your happiness. -Sarah Meiselman
