Artist’s note: This holiday season, we’re coming up upon three years since the first Black Marie danced in New York City Ballet’s “The Nutcracker.”  Just 3 years! Even though we still have a long way to go, I am so thankful to be able to see more and more people who represent the underrepresented-not just in the world of dance, but in the holiday season as a whole! I pray that over time, everyone would be able to see themselves represented in big ways, especially in such long-held traditions as “The Nutcracker!”
