After the tragic events of “Avengers: Infinity War,” millions of people were left wondering what the fate of the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be after Thanos wiped out half of the population. Our first glimpse into the next installment came in a trailer on December 7. However, on March 14,  a second, longer trailer for “Avengers: Endgame” was released with a new look at some of our classic heroes as well as more hints as to the events of the film. This trailer is packed with content and viewers may have missed some elements in their initial viewing. So, here is the official VOX ATL “Avengers: Endgame” Trailer Breakdown.

0:00-0:08 We are presented with a black and white flashback sequence using footage from “Iron Man” (2008) that highlights only the color red followed by narration by Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). This narration is likely used here to present the desperation of Stark within both scenarios. Similar to how he fought his way out of being trapped in the Middle East by terrorists, he is currently trapped in space with little hope of survival or escape. The use of three images almost seems to make his whole arc come full circle with him needing a new idea to escape space like how he needed a new idea to escape his imprisonment in the desert.

0:10-0:13 This shot of Tony’s destroyed Iron Man helmet is new footage from “Avengers: Endgame,” it seems that he is making video documentaries of what he believes to be his last few days. The location here appears to be on the ship of the mostly deceased Guardians of the Galaxy, where it can be assumed that Tony and Nebula (Karen Gillan) are drifting through space with a goal of returning to Earth.

0:14-0:17 Through the use of this footage from previous “Iron Man” films and the corresponding narration, this is meant to convey Tony’s journey emotionally as well as mentally, becoming less self-centered and more focused on being a hero and protecting the world.

0:20-0:25 This shot of the Guardians ship floating through space with Tony looking out of the window conveys a sense of desperation as the ship looks broken down and the situation seems hopeless.

0:26-0:32 Black and white flashback from “Captain America: The First Avenger” with a voiceover from the older Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) as she appeared in “Captain America: Winter Soldier.” Her monologue also seems to mirror the situation in both “Winter Soldier” and “Endgame.” In both, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) must deal with a traumatic event that results in a massive change in his world. In “Winter Soldier,” Steve must come to terms with the fact that he has left his previous life behind, everyone he knew and loved were most likely dead and he must adjust to life in the future. In “Endgame,” Steve must now cope with the loss of half of Earth’s population including his close friends such as Sam Wilson (The Falcon played by Anthony Mackie), Bucky Barnes (Winter Soldier played by Sebastian Stan), T’Challa (Black Panther played by Chadwick Boseman) and many other heroes that we may not know of yet.

0:33-0:37 Peggy’s specific line, “None of us can go back,” may hint to a heavily theorized aspect of time travel in the film with the remaining heroes traveling back in time to possibly change the fate of the universe. It is also notable how many ships are docked around Liberty Island. This may be showing the Statue of Liberty as some sort of metaphorical safe haven for many people following this massive event, the Statue of Liberty could serve as a metaphor for the Avengers while the ships symbolize the people that look to the Avengers for guidance and protection.

0:38-0:41 This shot shows Hawkeye (played by Jeremy Renner) with a young girl as he is seemingly mentoring her on how to shoot a bow. While there have been many debates on whether or not this girl could be Kate Bishop, Hawkeye’s successor in the comics, it is more likely that this girl is his daughter who may have disappeared following the snap. If this is true, Hawkeye’s new Ronin gear in the following shot makes more sense.

0:42-0:48 Here we see Hawkeye taking on the new persona as Ronin, a change that he made temporarily in the comic books. When Clint Barton (Hawkeye) becomes Ronin, he is more violent and less comedic than his arrow-wielding counterpart. It is likely that he took on this new form following the deaths of his family from the Thanos snap, making him roam the streets hunting evildoers to take out his rage. It is likely that this scene is the first time that Clint has seen Natasha (Black Widow played by Scarlett Johansson) since the events of “Captain America: Civil War,” meaning that she is likely recruiting him to assist in the new plan to reverse the events of “Infinity War” while also emotionally reconnecting with him, hopefully driving him away from his anger and violence. Peggy’s line, “Sometimes the best that we can do is to start over,” puts an emphasis on this reunion.

0:49-0:51 This shot from Peggy’s funeral in “Captain America: Civil War” seems to show how Steve had to start over as it showed that some of his last friends from his time were dying, leaving him alone in the future to which he still may not be entirely accustomed.

0:52-0:56 This shot of Asgard followed by the shot of Thor (Chris Hemsworth) alone on Earth symbolizes his journey from being a Godly Prince of a heavenly realm to a beaten and scarred warrior, alone on a foreign planet. It conveys Thor’s journey and the downfall of the Asgardians within a few shots.

0:57-1:10 The replaying of many of the deaths of “Infinity War” emphasizes the extremely large death toll of the event and how much it has truly affected the remaining Avengers. This is ever present with Thor and Captain America’s reflections and narration in which their emotions and shock can be felt through their lines.

1:11-1:15 Steve’s line, “I keep telling people they should move on. Some do, but not us,” is evidently used to show that the Avengers are going to be taking some drastic actions which may alter the entire universe to save those who were killed by Thanos. It is also notable that Black Widow has notably dyed her hair back to red from its previous blonde color while Captain America has shaved his beard. It is also notable that Bruce Banner (Hulk played by Mark Ruffalo) is also present in the scene making it likely that this is a meeting happening between most of the remaining heroes.

1:16-1:19 This shot shows a pole full of missing posters being read by Scott Lang (Ant-Man played by Paul Rudd). At the end of  “Ant-Man and Wasp,” Scott Lang became trapped in the quantum realm as his whole team was killed by the snap. This scene may be after he resurfaces and is slowly figuring out the events that transpired while he was gone.

1:20-1:25 The shot of the Avengers flying in a Quinjet over a city, followed by Black Widow’s line, “Even if there’s a small chance, we owe it to everyone who’s not in this room to try,” shows that the Avengers will swiftly be taking action to reverse the deaths of “Infinity War.” Inside the Quinjet, Hawkeye and Black Widow seem to be wearing their newer uniforms as opposed to their classic clothing.

1:27-1:28 Character running from an explosion, since this is still an action movie.

1:29-1:30 Rocket (Bradley Cooper) and War Machine (Don Cheadle) seem to be teaming up to fight some new enemy in this shot. Both Rocket and War Machine seem to be in different outfits than in their last appearances. War Machine’s Armor seems bulkier and stronger while Rocket is wearing a full leather suit reminiscent of the Ravengers from “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 1” and “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.”

1:30-1:48 Several action shots as well as the repetition of the line “Whatever it takes” which hints to the sacrifice of one or more of the remaining heroes to save everyone who was killed.

1:30-1:33 It’s notable that the shot of Captain America and Hawkeye are not actually from the same scene here.

1:34 Ant-Man seems to be back in action and at the Avengers Mansion.

1:35 This scene is likely to be following the battle of Wakanda, due to the similar environment and Thor’s clothing.

1:36 This scene looks like it could be on Titan but is also likely to be on another planet in the film.

1:39 Hawkeye here seems to be infiltrating some facility and is back to using a bow and arrow rather than the Ronin sword. This also appears to be the same place that exploded earlier in the trailer.

1:40 This appears to be a training scene in which everyone is gearing up for the upcoming battles. It is notable that Black Widow’s hair is still blonde here as opposed to other scenes in the trailer.

1:43 While the background is blurred here, it’s important to note in this shot Captain America is in his classic uniform and has his classic shield. The burn marks on his face and the blood on his teeth seem to indicate that he’s been in a very tough battle.

1:44-2:11: From this shot it’s notable that Thor, Hulk, Rocket, Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Rocket are missing. Surprisingly, Tony Stark and Nebula have returned for this scene, meaning that they made it back to Earth fairly early in the movie. These suits don’t seem to be a fashion choice either. They are most likely going to be used by the Avengers to travel into the quantum realm and go through time as hinted at in “Ant-Man and Wasp.” As for the missing heroes, Rocket is confirmed to be in this shot, but below the eye level of the camera. Thor and Hulk are not seen here but thanks to advance leaks of the toys for “Avengers: Endgame” are both confirmed to have suits for quantum travel. As for Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) and Okoye, it is unlikely that either will be wearing this new quantum armor as Okoye may be running Wakanda in the absence of the Black Panther and Captain Marvel likely would not have a need for a suit of this kind, due to her powers. It’s also notable that War Machine’s quantum suit seems to be infused with his War Machine armor, making him bulkier than everyone else. Also in this shot, Black Widow’s hair is fully red with no traces of blond like in previous shots.

2:12-2:22: This final scene looks to tease an interesting power dynamic between the two strongest of the Avengers. Those who saw “Captain Marvel” are aware of how powerful this character and longtime fans of the MCU know of the power possessed by the God of Thunder. This is likely to be a comedic relationship, with each showing off their powers to each other throughout the film.

With “Avengers: Endgame” right around the corner (the film hits theaters on April 26), who knows what other new information may surface about the film. Let us know what you think about trailer in the comments below.
