VOX Teen Poetry: To Leach A Diamond

P-r-i-d-e
The only thing
I’ve seen
Besides lost dreams that can shrivel up like
sweat drops
Heart stops from slanged rocks
Because growing up in a bricked jungle is
the perfect climate
For — pressure to make diamonds dimmer
than stars — that are beyond the world and
god
Seen it
Yet I’ve seen pride pried open from the grips
of surrounding walls
As you fall through the open floor
You mistake pride as the only door
And left are Malnourished minds to mine
Amongst the corners of your character
And tell you right from wrong
Out of all fatal commodities
There is only one
Deadlier than a gun
Choose humility or pride?
One sheds light while one leaves you blind
Then you’ve seen nothing.
