Your Fashion Hookup, part one

J.Cole once said, “History repeats itself, and that’s just how it goes.” Well, as an aspiring fashionista, I’ve always liked to change it to “Fashion repeats itself, and that’s just how it goes.” Feature styles repeating themselves have been inevitable since forever and the same goes for the summer of 2015. Though everybody has their own distinct fashion taste, the trends of the summer have influenced many looks, from the Kanye West “contained chaos” look to the “chic uptown”  girl look.

Here are the top trends for the summer and my opinions about them:

  • One of the trends I am totally in love with for the summer is shirt dresses! From stripes to bright bold neon colors, this trend is for every size and every age. You can wear shirt dresses with sandals, heels or even boots with shirt dresses. This is definitely one of the fashions you can change to fit your own style.
  • Another trend I have seen come back is culottes (pictured above). I don’t know what century these pants came from, but they should go back. They remind me of boot-cut jeans from the 70s, mixed with a capri pant. I totally dislike them.
  • All white can never go out of style — even after Labor Day. It can pair with virtually anything and pull together a cute outfit. The trend is all white everything— I’m in love with this idea, especially for a night out on the town.
  • Though it is getting hotter and hotter, the Kimono style trench coats are a great fashion for a cold night. The trend reminds me of a fusion between the Japanese traditional garment and spies’ coats. It is also a cute idea if you want to step out in something simple like jeans and a t-shirt; in a sense, these trench coats add a dash of flavor to your outfit.

  • One of the fashion trends that I have seen never go away is denim on denim — and I have always hated it. It has always seemed so tacky to me, to wear two different colors of denim at the same time just irritates me. In every outfit there has to be a happy medium between risk and actually matching. So, to people who wear denim on denim  please stop!
