VOX Teen Poetry: Precious Perennial Peony

by share

She is as fragile as a flower on the inside
Pretty as a pink peony on the outside

But we will never understand what nutrients she had to find to grow…

She wasn’t your typical rose…
Nor was she your average daisy…

She was so much more on the inside.

Her roots were long beneath her surface
For it took so much for them to extend beyond that point

No one knew about her deep roots that could not be seen
All because they only saw her for her pretty pink petals

She had been through so many thunderstorms..
Enough to saturate her stem, and cause her to die

She had witnessed all the other flowers give in and lose hope…

But she was determined to keep her roots grounded…

She had been through so many droughts…
Enough to deprive her of her true form

She had witnessed the rest of the floral garden wilt and drift apart

But she stood strong on the inside…

She never wanted credit for being strong, indestructible or vigorous..
She only wanted to be seen for more than her beauty..

Because she is so much more than pretty pink petals.
