‘Captain Marvel’ is a Marvel of a Movie to Behold

A tall, proud stance. A determined, fiery gaze. A glistening, clean suit. All three of these iconic descriptions can be summarized in one word—power. And there is one single hero whose poise and confidence simply radiates an aura of power. “Captain Marvel” is truly a marvel of a movie to behold.

There are not enough words to describe how impressed I was with this movie. I walked into the advance press screening of Marvel’s latest with hesitance, as I—and probably you as well, dear reader—sided with public speculation that “Captain Marvel” wasn’t going to be that good of a movie. Fortunately, Marvel’s talented writers and actors were eager to prove us wrong.

Aside from being visually stunning, “Captain Marvel” hosts an abundance of strong themes and character development. Carol Danvers (portrayed by Brie Larson), an amnesiac Kree soldier, battles with her identity and loyalty when she is stranded on 1990s-era Earth after a mission gone wrong. There, she encounters the one and only Nick Fury (portrayed by Samuel L. Jackson), and together they set out on a grand adventure to stop a potential alien invasion on Fury’s home planet. With the help of Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch) and curious cat Goose, Carol and Fury fight their way to the truth.

“Captain Marvel” isn’t the most original movie—there’s some tropes you’ve most likely seen before (there’s a “he was the villain the entire time!” and even a “this character isn’t as innocent as you initially thought.”) However, the flawless execution of these tropes and the simple twists thrown in make the movie unique. Even the precision of detail with minor characters and the background make for a spectacular sight.
