VOX Investigates

VOX Investigates produces two special projects per year, thanks to funding (or investment) support by community partners, using the tools of media to tackle tough subjects of critical importance to our community. This fall, we looked at the impact of HIV and AIDS on teens in Atlanta. Our team of eight teens and five adult mentors took a deep dive into this issue, culminating in a dance performance and community dialogue with partner Moving in the Spirit. Please check out this video, produced by Nea-Sa’Mon Wray, VOX teen staff member, on our partnership with Moving in the Spirit.

Each semester, a team of teens — supported by volunteer mentors — will:

build community and build skills
research the topic
report on the topic
publish diverse voices about the topic
facilitate dialogue around the topic with partners and teens in the community
and share the stories and project with their community and VOX’s teen audience

Shake the Stigma: HIV, AIDS and Atlanta Teens

This team of teenagers took a semester-long journey into stories to produce print media, videos, audio stories, open dialogue sessions, photography and other journalistic platforms. The fall semester was dedicated to creating content that pertains to how HIV and AIDS plays a role within the city of Atlanta. We selected this topic due to the fact that the HIV and AIDS rates in Atlanta are reaching an all-time high.
