VOX Teen Poetry: Willow

by share

Willow
When I first said I love you
you smiled
mimicked me
and ran away.

When you came back
I dropped everything
to hold your hand
while you cried.

Man, did you cry!
and sing through the guitar
scream over the piano
and bleed under the blue light,

but you reached out to hold
someone else’s hand
kissed someone else’s cheek
and skipped town
before I could ask why,

I missed you this time you came to
town.
But you missed me too.

So I’ll settle for only seeing you
from behind this screen.

And only hearing you
through these earbuds.

Because I will always write for you
But you will always sing for
everyone.
