Volunteer at VOX Media Cafe
We are currently recruiting volunteers to support VOX Media Cafe, our summer multimedia camp!
VOX Media Café (VMC) is the only program of its kind in metro Atlanta, covering new digital media techniques for storytelling and the fundamentals of journalism — all while creating tangible multimedia products. Each day’s workshops are taught by a volunteer cadre of professionals, who embrace VOX’s teen-driven philosophy and act as “guides on the side” for participants. In addition to hands-on instruction, teen participants go out into the field, visit local media organizations, and get to know peers from schools all over the city.
We are looking for volunteers to support all three sessions with skillsets in:
- Journalism basics (objectivity, sourcing, interviewing)
- Audio recording and editing
- Video production
- Setting up digital packages on WordPress sites
Volunteering at VOX
VOX welcomes adults, 21 and older, who would like to volunteer with teens. Our volunteers work directly with teens and also for teens. Most importantly, VOX works with teen leaders in our community, and we take adult “fit” very seriously. Volunteers should honor VOX’s most important philosophies of:
- teens first
- be a “guide on the side,” not a “sage on the stage”
- finish what you start
- let the teens be in the driver’s seat; honor youth-driven programming
- experiential and immersive learning experiences for teens and adults
We look forward to working with you to provide a fruitful, personally tailored volunteer experience. VOX does not provide court-mandated volunteer opportunities.
Corporate volunteer opportunities are available and include drives for in-kind items, hosting a teen at your workplace and more. Contact Allison Hood, Development Director, for more information.
VOX volunteer (and Board member!) Bartram Nason co-facilitates a video production workshop with VOX teen Mikael.
