Dear VOX family,
July always means a new chapter for VOX. While we’re in the midst of summer programming, we’re also turning the page on a new fiscal year. It’s a fresh start with plenty of opportunities to build on past successes with new and innovative ways to grow our vital mission. We’re teaming up to tell you a little more about what we’re looking forward to in this new year.
Rachel Alterman Wallack, Founder & Mission Director
We’re excited to let you know that Rachel Alterman Wallack, VOX’s founder, is stepping into an expanded role as Mission Director! We can’t wait to see what happens when she and Susan continue to collaborate, create and conspire together! As we look forward to and plan for our 25th Anniversary in 2018, Rachel and Susan will be working closely to support VOX’s strategic and innovative evolution as the place where teens speak and Atlanta listens. Day-to-day, you’ll find Rachel building strategic partnerships, developing new earned revenue opportunities for VOX and guiding our teens’ publishing with a dynamite team.
Maurice Garland, Publishing Manager
Speaking of publishing, we’re thrilled that today is Maurice Garland’s first day as VOX’s Publishing Manager! Maurice brings more than 14 years of experience in print and digital journalism, radio/video production, live show hosting, blogging, and online content creation and marketing. He will support and guide teens in creating multimedia content and engage them in our hands-on, educational publishing process every step of the way. Maurice will also be instrumental in telling VOX’s story on our websites (VOXAtl.com and VOXAtl.org) and in our communications.
Rich Eldredge, Senior Editor
We are celebrating Rich’s sixth anniversary with VOX this fall. Over the course of his VOX career, he has connected with hundreds of teens and edited their work, guiding them in creating content that tells their stories and shares their unique perspectives. Rich also supports all aspects of our programming, including grounding our teen staff in journalism rights, responsibilities and techniques, as well as providing skill-building workshops and in-the-field coverage opportunities. His alter ego, Chef Philippe, also keeps us fueled with delicious and nutritious home-made meals in the VOX kitchen!
Josie Footmon-Smith, LMSW, Program Manager & Atlanta Word Works Director
Josie, who has been with VOX since the fall of 2013, continues to grow in her role as Program Manager. Working closely with the publishing team, Josie ensures that VOX programming aligns with our impact areas of preparing, connecting and valuing all of the teens that we serve. She brings her social work expertise to manage our social-emotional support and takes the lead on program evaluation. This year, she will also be the director of Atlanta Word Works, ensuring this program of VOX supports teens with an inclusive, teen-driven space to create world-changing poetry.
Allison Hood, MSW, Development & Outreach Director
Allison will continue to strategize, plan and execute all aspects of VOX’s fundraising — including our incredibly fun events. This year she will also direct our volunteer program, ensuring that volunteers at VOX are connected to opportunities to serve, prepared with the training and support they need, and celebrated for the many contributions they make to our organization. Other aspects of outreach include connecting with VOX alumni as well as our distribution partners who receive print editions of VOX three times per year. We’re looking forward to seeing the many ways Allison connects and builds the VOX community with this important addition to her role!
Susan Landrum, MSW, Executive Director
As Executive Director, I feel lucky every day that I get to support this team, the teens of VOX, and our committed board of directors in growing our mission. My role is to continue to grow the capacity of our organization, strategize around all that’s to come, and ensure that VOX is sustainable and strong for this next chapter. We have so much to look forward to and a strong history to celebrate. I can’t wait for all that’s ahead!
Elizabeth Faist, VOX Board Chair
It is an honor to serve as Board Chair as we turn the page on this new year. With this team of staff and board members, I know that VOX’s future is bright. We can’t wait to celebrate our 25th anniversary in 2018 with our community of alumni, volunteers, partners, and committed supporters! We look forward to smart and strategic growth in the months and years to come.
Thank you for reading and for being a part of the VOX family!
