In honor of VOX’s 25th birthday on May 13, 2018, we are celebrating 25 Days of VOX! We will be sharing short profiles of 25 people who have been a part of VOX’s journey during our first quarter century. Follow along over the next 25 days to learn more about the people who have made VOX the place where teens speak and Atlanta listens.
Cat Boyd is a VOX alumna. During her time at VOX, she was a VOX Investigates team member, VOX Media Cafe summer intern and the inaugural recipient of our VOX Spirit Award!
When did you join VOX? I joined VOX in September 2015, not knowing what I wanted to do with my life at the time. Fresh out of high school, I had just turned 18 and I decided to take a shot with this program to see what I could do and what I could learn and basically give myself some direction. [Check out Cat’s piece on her gap year.]
What are you up to now? I’m an English major doing my best to keep up my GPA at Georgia State University. I’m also a student assistant for an advisor’s office on campus.
What’s your favorite VOX memory? During the summer I was an intern, we were all rapping along to Ultralight Beam and it cut off mid-song and we all still managed to finish the song in unison. Another early morning at VOX Media Cafe before all the campers arrived, we put on Off the Wall on the record player and sang along. But the ultimate memory was that summer when I turned 19 and VOX surprised me with an ice cream cake and everyone was there, including Atlanta Word Works. It was a really nice day. [Hear more from Cat about her experience as a summer intern.]
What’s your hope for VOX’s future? My hope during our quarter life crisis is that we become more front and center in Atlanta. We are a hidden gem and we want more people to know about us!
What 3 words would you use to describe VOX? Innovative, bizarre, universal
