Each summer at our First Draft event, we celebrate the winner of the Lindsey Knox Volunteer Superhero Award! We are excited to announce that alum Crissinda Ponder is the 2018 recipient. We are always grateful when our alums return to VOX to volunteer with our current teens. Crissinda has supported us in countless ways this year, from helping to plan fundraising events to copy editing our print editions to volunteering at VOX Media Cafe.
She is pictured above as a VOX teen in a photo that was featured in our print edition. Read on as Crissinda talks about her time at VOX and the impact it had on her.
When did you join VOX? I joined VOX in Fall 2007, which was the beginning of my senior year at Creekside High School.
What are you up to now? I’m a finance and education content editor for ABUV Media, a start-up company based in Reno, Nevada. Prior to my current position, I was a mortgage reporter and analyst for Bankrate.com. (Crissinda is pictured below helping to copy edit one of VOX’s print editions.)
What impact has VOX had on you? And what’s your favorite VOX memory? VOX exposed me to the possibility of a journalism-related career. I’d known since second grade that I wanted to be a writer, but I hadn’t really considered journalism before VOX. My favorite memory was interviewing Fonzworth Bentley; such a cool guy.
What’s your hope for VOX’s future? I’m hopeful that VOX continues to reach Atlanta-area teens by giving them a platform that’s not always available elsewhere, and maintains its reputation as a safe space for teens to share ideas and express themselves. Having VOX as a teen meant the world to me.
What 3 words would you use to describe VOX? Cathartic, creative, innovative
Join us on June 27th for First Draft at Eventide Brewing as we celebrate Crissinda and say cheers to all our VOX volunteers!
